Junior Sub Editor

About the role

As Junior Sub Editor, you will assist the sub-editor in producing print editions by reviewing, editing, fact-checking, and proofreading content. You will also maintain and update the magazine’s databases and liaise with the digital media team to ensure accurate and timely updates across the website and social media pages.

Responsibilities

• Assist in content review, editing, fact-checking, and proofreading for print editions.
• Maintain and update the magazine’s databases with accuracy and strict confidentiality.
• Liaise with the digital media team to ensure timely and error-free updates on the website and social media.
• Source new writers by identifying contacts from online blogs, regional networks, or news correspondences.
• Research and manage content for regular columns, including Media Scan, Upcoming Events, and columns on saints.
• Transcribe program articles, interviews, and feature articles as needed.
• Update and maintain the publication team’s communication databases, including authors, editors, and their contact details.
• Track and update databases for articles (received, reviewed, published in print and digital), box items, and regular columns.
• Manage communications with regular authors, including requests for articles, responses to submissions, sharing articles and promo links, and gathering annual feedback.
• Monitor and streamline the review and editing process by uploading items for review, ensuring timely reviews, and updating the Editorial Desk status.
• Coordinate the handover of final article content for translation, digital media upload, and Kindle distribution.
• Organize birthday wishes and Holy Mass requests for authors and editors.
• Plan and distribute Christmas gifts to authors, editors, and unpaid translators.
• Monitor website, app, and social media updates daily to ensure functionality and report errors.
• Liaise with the Document Manager to store testimonies and feedback in the Folderit system.
• Assist the prison point of contact (POC) in proper and timely documentation.
• Collaborate with the News Team to identify events, news, or content suitable for featured articles.
