About the role
Orion Engineering has an immediate opening for a junior Structural Engineer in our Houston, TX office. The role involves providing structural design engineering support for the construction of marine and heavy civil structures.
Responsibilities
- Works with the Engineering & Structural Design team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Collections data and gathers information or documents.
- Performs standard computations and analysis.
- Prepares drawings and visual aids.
- Observes construction activities to determine best design applications.
- Performs basic survey work as required.
- Applies prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established engineering criteria to perform assigned tasks.
- Works with Engineer team members to assist in successful completion of design project objectives.
- Assists in the inspection of existing waterfront structures and designing of repairs and/or upgrades.
- Responsible and accountable for incumbent’s own personal safety.
- Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and any others incumbent comes into contact with.
- Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed.
- Complies with all applicable laws, regulations and Company policies and procedures, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
- Reports any and all violations of applicable laws, regulations or Company policies and procedures promptly, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so.
- Performs other related administrative and technical duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.).
Requirements
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering with a structural or geotechnical track and 0-4 years of work experience is required.
- Must have completed Fundamentals of Engineering exam and hold E.I. certification or E.I.T.
- The incumbent must have a working knowledge of basic structural analysis using concrete and/or steel elements.
- Travel including international travel is required.
- The incumbent must have the ability to quickly learn the technical aspects of the business; be an effective communicator; have the ability to interface well with employees at all levels of the organization; and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
- The incumbent must be well organized, diligent, and be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and to independently identify work to be done.
- The incumbent must be flexible and have the ability to adjust to sudden changes in work priorities.
- The incumbent must have the ability to prioritize work generally and in order to accommodate those changes.
- The incumbent must have the ability to maintain attention to detail and perform tasks accurately and carefully.
