Junior Software Engineer

ResponsibilitiesThis entry-level Software Engineer role supports product development on agile teams. Work with engineers, product managers, and QA to deliver customer-facing features, resolve defects, and grow your technical skills.Design, implement, test, and maintain software features under the guidance of experienced engineersDeliver on user stories, product enhancements, and defect fixes as part of an agile sprintWrite clean, maintainable, and well-tested code that follows established engineering standardsParticipate in code reviews and apply feedback to improve code qualityInvestigate defects, identify root causes, and implement fixesLearn the application architecture and integrate changes safely with the broader codebaseTechnical AreasDepending on team assignment and product needs, you may contribute in one or more areas:Full-stack development (TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Java, Node.js)Front-end UI and component work for responsive, accessible experiencesBack-end services, APIs, and business logic focused on reliability and performanceDatabase design and queries for relational and NoSQL systemsProjects involving AI or machine learning (NLP, LLMs) where applicableEngineering PracticesParticipate across the software development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deploymentUse source control, CI/CD, automated tests, and issue tracking as part of team workflowsCreate unit and integration tests to reduce regressionsApply secure, scalable, and maintainable engineering practicesUse modern tools — including AI-assisted development tools when appropriate — while maintaining engineering accountabilityCollaboration & GrowthCollaborate with engineers, QA, product managers, and stakeholdersAsk questions, seek feedback, and communicate technical progress and risksWork with a mentor and engineering manager to set goals and build technical depthTake increasing ownership of features from implementation through deliveryContribute to design reviews, sprint planning, and a collaborative engineering cultureQualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experienceFoundational knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and software designProgramming experience from coursework, internships, projects, or professional workExperience with at least one modern language (Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, C++, etc.)Understanding of web application concepts, APIs, databases, and client/server architectureStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsEffective written and verbal communicationAbility and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and work within a large codebaseProven ability to work collaboratively on a software development teamPreferredJava and Java-based server-side developmentJavaScript/TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular)Node.js, HTML, CSS, SQL, NoSQL databases, REST APIsGit, Bitbucket, Jira, Jenkins or other CI/CD toolsUnit testing frameworks (JUnit, etc.)Cloud and container technologiesFamiliarity with NLP, ML or Large Language Models and AI-assisted development toolsWhat Success Looks Like (Year 1)Become proficient with the codebase, tools, and product architectureSuccessfully complete well-defined engineering tasks with guidanceIndependently investigate and resolve defectsConsistently deliver maintainable, tested code and incorporate feedbackCommunicate clearly about requirements, technical decisions, and risksProgress toward ownership of features and toward a Software Engineer II levelWork Environment & LocationThis role operates in a collaborative product engineering environment. Teams may be remote, hybrid, or require regular collaboration from the confidential client’s Campbell, CA office. Specific in-office expectations are determined by team needs.Compensation Estimated: $111,883 per year (estimated figure shown in source).
