Junior Regional Field Service Technician - South Dakota
About the role
Field Service Technicians install, service, maintain and repair biomedical systems and equipment. Emphasis on durable, deployable and capital medical equipment, including laboratory, clinical, dental, therapeutic, pneumatic, hydraulic, general, surgical, diagnostic and treatment equipment at the hardware, component, sub-assembly, module or circuit board level. Technicians maintain, repair and install equipment of the following types: mechanical, electrical, diagnostic, controlling, monitoring and recording.
This is a full-time, salaried, non-exempt position with an expectation of no less than 40 hours per week. The role is 100% remote dispatch, with a company vehicle, tools, and equipment provided. Candidate must reside in or relocate to one of the following South Dakota cities: Brookings, Sioux Falls, or Mitchell.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, align, and calibrate medical & laboratory equipment.
- Work with various electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, steam, water, and air systems.
- Read circuit diagrams and wiring schematics; apply working knowledge of electrical systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance according to contractual requirements.
- Manage repair parts, maintain inventories, and order replacement parts and equipment.
- Render technical advice and assistance as required.
- Provide customers and end users with product and technical support.
- Perform technical service and mechanical troubleshooting of equipment.
- Accurately document work conducted and log times and materials for services on digital CMMS.
- Communicate with customers to help them understand how to use, maintain, and troubleshoot their products and devices.
- Complete, maintain, update, and process pertinent digital systems, paperwork, and records.
- Solve problems, document procedures, and formulate repair plans and maintenance strategies.
- Operate, control, and maintain various biomedical test and calibration equipment.
Requirements
- Certificate(s) from trade/technical school or similar programs (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, biomedical, military training programs, etc.).
- 2-4 years of work experience in healthcare technical service fields preferred.
- CBET, CABT, CISS-MH, and/or other biomedical device repair and service certifications a plus.
- Current driver’s license valid for the state of residence is required.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in digital, written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must be willing to travel to perform on-site repairs, with occasional overnight/multi-day visits possible.
- Self-directed with the ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving with minimal guidance or oversight.
Preferred Experience
- Experience servicing, repairing, maintaining, or performing work on industrial-grade steam sterilization or bulk washer systems.
- Experience managing or utilizing digital CMMS or FSM platforms.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include color vision.

Work Environment
- Occasionally exposed to moving parts, cold, heat, and risk of electrical shock.
