About the role
The Junior Red Hat Linux Engineer will support the design and implementation of the Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) for Government Enterprise Networks (GEN). Responsibilities include operating and maintaining ACAS infrastructure, conducting network and appliance scanning, configuration assessments, and training operators and Information Assurance personnel.
Responsibilities
- Install and patch operating systems, applications, and document DISA Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIGs) for ACAS implementations.
- Assess current ACAS implementations for GEN networks and recommend changes.
- Document design steps for ACAS solutions, including IP address, Fully Qualified Domain Name, and physical location of each component.
- Create network diagrams using Microsoft Visio, including hardware and software requirements.
- Maintain Nessus scanners and Passive Vulnerability Scanners (PVS) connectivity with the associated Security Center (SC).
- Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for client ACAS solutions in SharePoint.
- Provide reports as necessary.
- Build Linux servers from DISA-provided ISO images.
- Troubleshoot SSH connection issues, LVM partitioning, disk space, and system-related issues.
- Configure and troubleshoot network settings (nmtui, nmcli, service, netstat, grep, top command).
- Manage patching and RPM package administration.
- Troubleshoot Kernel Panic, root/GRUB password resets, and firewall configurations.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience supporting, configuring, and administering Linux (RHEL) in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with RHEL 7.x or greater and virtualized environments (vSphere, ESXi).
- DoD 8570 IAT III or IAM II certification (CASP+, CCNP Security, CISA, GSE, SCNA, CISSP [or Associate], CAP, GSLC, CISM, GCED, GCIH, CISO, or HCISPP).
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with Red Hat Linux and cybersecurity toolsets (STIGs, CAS, IAVA Management, OPORD/FRAGO support).
- Understanding of LVM partitioning, disk space, and system troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with VMware, vSphere, SSL/TLS certificates, and OS hardening.
- Experience with Ansible, Ansible-playbook, and Ansible roles.
- Scripting experience (NASL, Python, Bash).
Preferred Skills
- Red Hat Satellite Version 6.12 or higher.
- Active Directory, LDAP, or Kerberos concepts.
- Migration from RHEL7 to RHEL8 using Leapp utility.
- Building or configuring YUM repositories for patching.
- AWS/Azure cloud experience (Security Groups, VPC, IAM, Autoscaling, Load Balancer).
- Container architecture experience.
- Engineering experience with Nessus Manager and Monitor.
- ACAS training certification or experience with DoW’s ACAS application.
Pay
The anticipated salary range for this position is $110,000 - $120,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant work experience, education, certifications, technical skills, security clearance level, geographic location, and qualifications.
