About the role

The Secure and Resilient Systems group at Riverside Research aims to architect systems that are secure by design, eliminating entire classes of vulnerabilities through secure input handling, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and open architectures. As a junior-level research scientist, you will support research and development of bleeding-edge security engineering technologies, interface with government research organizations (e.g., DARPA, IARPA, service labs), and develop technologies for transition to the warfighter. You will contribute to a diverse team developing security technologies for DoD systems, gain hands-on experience with MBSE artifacts and tools, and develop open architecture-aligned tooling for DoD partners. This role involves software and systems development in novel application areas, technical writing, and presenting research findings.

Responsibilities

  • Help design and ideate innovative open architecture capabilities
  • Build and modify tools and capabilities in languages like C/C++ and Python
  • Contribute to open architecture standards development
  • Prototype open architecture solutions using tools and hardware such as single board computers and microcontrollers
  • Contribute to whitepapers, proposals, and publish papers documenting innovative work
  • Present open architecture work and subject expertise to collaborators
  • Collaborate with team members on debugging programs, designing systems, and reviewing papers
  • Participate in relevant internal and customer meetings as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Cybersecurity and 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Eligibility to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Proficiency in programming languages C/C++ and Python
  • Experience with version control (Git)
  • Ability to interpret and understand requirements documentation
  • Self-driven, with strong analytic, inferencing, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills

Qualifications

  • Experience with Memory Safe Languages (e.g., Rust)
  • Experience with MBSE tools
  • Knowledge of open architecture standards
  • Experience with Docker or other container services
  • Healthy balance between technical orientation and business acumen
  • Ability to operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and establish solid working relationships with technical staff and peers
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

Pay

$72,000 - $85,000 (typical compensation range based on experience, location, and other factors)
