About the Role
The Junior Handler will screen cargo in compliance with TSA rules and regulations. The role requires completing a 4-8 week minimum team training course and certification prior to mobilization to the assigned location.
Responsibilities
- Participate in CCSP-related training to search cargo and identify potential threats.
- Conduct authorized representative duties related to X-Ray, physical search, and explosive trace detection as needed.
- Perform Junior Handler duties while commanding a trained working dog.
- Maintain training records, care, and maintenance of assigned certified canine.
- Ensure the assigned canine lives inside the employee’s residence, which must be adequate, indoor, and climate-controlled; the living area is subject to recurring inspections.
- Maintain all job-related certifications and required security clearances.
- Operate a company vehicle during on-site training.
- Work in varied conditions, including busy training environments, fieldwork, and frequent interruptions.
- Work outside in inclement weather, including heat, cold, and humidity.
- May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
- Work hours dictated by the customer’s schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule will vary.
- Travel may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship required; must have held citizenship for a minimum of three years prior to the date of application.
- Must obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within four to six weeks of employment.
- Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge within four to six weeks of employment.
- Must obtain a Security Threat Assessment (STA) for Airport Badge within four to six weeks of employment.
- Adequate transportation to transport assigned canine and crate (inside the vehicle) to/from work location; vehicle must have operational climate control.
- Must pass applicable Contract Testing and Certifications for the program within four to eight weeks of employment and maintain certification requirements.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record; license must comply with REAL ID standards or possess a valid U.S. passport in addition to a driver’s license.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities.
- Problem-solving skills with an analytical thought process.
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Requires standing for long periods in all weather conditions.
- Requires intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling.
- Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
