About the Team
You'll be joining the Inbound Compliance team. This team sits at the front line of Carta's compliance function — managing the intake and resolution of KYC requests on behalf of some of the world's leading asset managers and private equity firms. You'll work in a high-volume, client-facing environment where accuracy, speed, and regulatory fluency are the baseline.
Responsibilities
- Own the KYC request lifecycle: manage the intake, processing, and timely resolution of inbound KYC requests from clients and their counterparties, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks and every response meets the standard.
- Be the client's compliance guide: serve as the primary point of contact for KYC inquiries, giving clients clear, confident answers on global KYC requirements so they can move their transactions forward.
- Uphold the regulatory bar: review and validate KYC documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with AML, KYC, and applicable international frameworks, and make the call when something doesn't pass muster.
- Keep records airtight: maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all KYC requests and documentation in Carta's systems, so the team always has a clean audit trail.
- Stay ahead of a moving target: monitor evolving KYC/AML regulations globally and apply updated requirements to daily work, ensuring Carta's compliance posture keeps pace with regulatory change.
Requirements
- Detail-oriented under pressure: you catch what others miss and do it consistently, even when managing a high volume of concurrent requests against tight deadlines.
- Confident and client-ready: you enjoy client KYC conversations with senior stakeholders and counterparties, assertive, professional, and knowing when to escalate versus when to resolve.
- 1 to 2+ years of compliance experience: you have a working understanding of global KYC and AML frameworks and can apply them practically, not just cite them. AML/KYC certifications (ICA, ACAMS) are a plus but not required.
- A proactive decision-maker: you don't wait to be told what to do. You assess the situation, apply the right framework, and move forward with minimal supervision.
- Experienced in complex legal entities: prior exposure to corporate banking, a legal service provider, or a fund compliance environment is a strong plus, particularly familiarity with offshore jurisdictions like Cayman or Luxembourg.
- A communicator people trust: you write clearly, speak with confidence, and bring the same professionalism to client-facing correspondence as you do to internal work.
- Able to manage a full plate: you handle multiple priorities simultaneously without dropping the ball, and stay composed under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Building toward a compliance career: you have a genuine interest in AML/CFT compliance and legal services and are looking for a place to grow, not just a job to fill.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI in practice: you've worked with AI tools or technology-driven workflows before and know how to apply them in real-world settings.
- Prior experience in financial or legal services: a background at a law firm, legal services provider, fund administrator, or the compliance or legal department of a financial institution or asset manager will set you up well.
- Familiarity with KYC documentation: experience reviewing or preparing KYC documentation packs, AML comfort letters, or UBO declarations is a meaningful advantage.
- Knowledge of private markets structures: familiarity with fund formations, GP/LP relationships, and offshore holding structures including Luxembourg is a strong plus.
- Regulatory framework exposure: any prior exposure to EU (including CSSF and AMLD requirements), UK (FCA), or US (FinCEN) AML/CFT frameworks will translate directly to this role.
- Qualifications: a degree in law, compliance, finance, or a related subject area, or a diploma in paralegal studies. Professional certifications such as ICA Certificate in AML or ACAMS are a plus but not required.
