About the role
The Junior High Science Teacher at King’s Schools is responsible for teaching and supervising students in the area of science, aligning with the Christian tenets of the Statement of Faith and the Christian Community Commitment (CCC).
Responsibilities
- Teach prescribed Physical Science curriculum and use texts and resource materials provided.
- Relate all teaching to God's truth and share Christ worldwide.
- Encourage salvation and personal growth of each student by maintaining a Christ-like classroom learning environment and providing feedback and support focused on faith and love.
- Guide, evaluate, and encourage students to improve their study methods and work habits.
- Counsel and advise students on academic, personal, spiritual, and vocational concerns.
- Plan work on an annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily basis, and work according to plan.
- Submit weekly assignment sheets and yearly course plans as determined by the principal.
- Update and maintain the online school gradebook and homework website on a consistent basis.
- Confer immediately with students, parents, and the principal concerning the progress and/or problems of each student and provide written reports.
- Maintain a neat, attractive, and well-ventilated classroom and adjust lighting as needed.
- Accurately keep attendance and academic records and submit these to the office at the scheduled times.
- Participate in and support the testing program as conducted by the school counselor.
- Maintain bulletin boards and displays that stimulate academic, spiritual, and social growth.
- Collect money, dues, etc. in connection with school or classroom activities in accordance with King’s Schools' cash receipts policy and procedure.
- Supervise regular activities, break, lunch, chapels, and assemblies, and other activities where a cooperative teacher effort is involved.
- Fulfill duties assigned as lunchroom supervisor.
- Advise and participate in extracurricular activities, committees, and programs as assigned.
- Orient and assist beginning teachers as needed.
- Inform the appropriate school official immediately if unable to fulfill any duty assigned and prepare adequate information and materials for the substitute teacher.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, coworkers, students, and their families.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Christ-centered belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
- A committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc.).
- Prayerfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA.
- Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices.
- Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
- Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent.
- Experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree as long as the bachelor’s degree is scheduled to be completed within 1 year of hire.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to teach science content – writing, mathematical application, and data analysis – with intellectual depth, clarity, and alignment to a Christ-centered educational philosophy.
- Strong classroom management experience.
- Adherence to laboratory safety and designing engaging labs to enhance the content and teach lab skills.
