Junior Field Inspector

About the role

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Junior Field Inspector for its Houston, TX Region. This position supports inspections of structural components at customer locations and ensures that structural deficiencies are recorded for customer use.

Responsibilities

• Detect possible defects and faults in structural systems and recommend or stipulate appropriate remedial measures for noncomplex defects.
• Accurately read and comprehend drawings.
• Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation.
• Use graphic instructions, such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids.
• Apply intensive and diversified knowledge in broad areas of assignments, especially projects concerned with unique or specialized problems.
• Complete company developed training modules.
• Interface directly with the client's representatives as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical degree preferred.
• Recent civil/structural engineering graduates with practical field experience under a professional engineer.
• Experience in shop welding and fabrication or quality inspection in other fields.
• NDT experience preferred.
• Certified welding inspector preferred.
• American Petroleum Inspector 510, 570 or 653 preferred.
• NACE coating inspector preferred.
• Experience in shop welding and fabrication or quality inspection in other fields is preferred.
• Must pass a fit for duty test.

Qualifications

• At least 2+ years of appropriate inspection experience and/or field technician supervision.
• Reliable vehicle transportation.

Skills

• Proficient with a computer and/or tablet use in office & field.
• Physical ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, and climb ladders.
