Junior Environmental Engineer/Scientist

About the role

Niyam IT is seeking an Environmental Engineer/Scientist to support our federal client. The role involves a variety of environmental functions and requires travel to client facilities.

Responsibilities

• Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management Program.
• Provide technical, analytical, and administrative support for environmental compliance, policy development, regulatory analysis, auditing, inspections, incident investigations, and recordkeeping.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of environmental policies, procedures, directives, and supporting materials.
• Conduct and support environmental compliance audits, including in-person, virtual, and self-assessment formats.
• Review and update environmental compliance checklists to ensure accuracy and completeness of audit activities.
• Develop and deliver environmental training programs in both in-person and virtual formats.
• Monitor and evaluate federal, state, and local environmental regulations and proposed rulemakings for potential impact to operations.
• Provide analysis and recommendations to address regulatory changes and maintain compliance.
• Create and distribute environmental communication and outreach materials for internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepare and submit routine reports summarizing program activities, compliance status, audit results, and key performance metrics.
• Identify, track, and communicate environmental risks, issues, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders and leadership.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including client personnel, contractors, and external partners.
• Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and coordination efforts to promote knowledge sharing, alignment, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• US Citizen with ability to obtain public trust.
• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Management, or Environmentally related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in environmental work, including familiarity with hazardous materials and hazardous waste regulations.
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment and effectively interact with numerous civilian personnel and industry partners.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
• High degree of originality, creativity, initiative requiring minimal supervision.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.

Preferred

• Professional certification (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional).
