About the role
Penguin Young Readers Marketing is seeking a creative and highly organized Designer to join our fast-paced team. This role will support the development of marketing, sales, and publicity materials across print, digital, and social platforms. The ideal candidate is a collaborative designer eager to grow their design skills while contributing fresh ideas to campaigns for some of the most exciting titles in children’s publishing.
Penguin Young Readers brings together award-winning authors and illustrators, such as Jan Brett, Tomie dePaola, Amanda Gorman, John Green, Matthew McConaughey, Ransom Riggs, and Reese Witherspoon, as well as world-famous brands, licenses, and best-selling series like The World of Eric Carle, Mad Libs, The Last Kids on Earth, Who HQ, Bluey, The Little Engine That Could, Corduroy, and Winnie-the-Pooh.
Reporting to the Art Director, the Designer will manage motion graphic projects and digital content to support marketing efforts across web, social, and email platforms, as well as printed promotional collateral, point-of-purchase (POP) displays, and signage. This is an opportunity to work on a variety of projects and genres in the children’s book industry.
Responsibilities
- Design a wide range of high-quality marketing materials—including sales collateral, promotional items, and print and digital advertisements—while maintaining established brand identities and style guidelines.
- Create engaging digital assets and animated social media graphics (.GIF and .MOV formats).
- Collaborate with the Design team on campaigns and creative initiatives for retailers, schools, libraries, and social media platforms.
- Support the Senior Art Director with administrative and organizational tasks, including file archiving, workflow coordination, and departmental process management.
- Contribute creative ideas for merchandising and advertising campaigns that promote both new releases and beloved Penguin classics.
- Stay current on design trends, emerging marketing strategies, and social media best practices.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects.
- Experience using AI platforms and an interest in expanding knowledge.
- Working knowledge of Premiere Pro and HTML5 is a plus.
- A strong digital portfolio demonstrating excellent typography, layout, and visual design skills for marketing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment while remaining adaptable and receptive to feedback.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Interest in children’s, middle grade, and young adult literature and publishing trends is a plus.
Pay
The salary for this position is $60,000 per year.
