Junior Data Scientist

About the Role

Altamira Technologies provides innovative solutions to the U.S. National Security community, serving defense, intelligence, and homeland security sectors worldwide. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines, interpreting and analyzing complex datasets, and managing machine learning (ML) projects using cloud-native platforms and advanced ML solutions.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and analyze data using exploratory mathematical and statistical techniques based on the scientific method.
• Coordinate research and analytic activities utilizing structured and unstructured data, employing programming to clean, massage, and organize data.
• Experiment with data points, provide insights based on results, and offer previously undiscovered solutions to data challenges.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers to build data environments for identified datasets.
• Apply and develop scientific methodology, statistics, and algorithms to discover and frame relevant problems, hypotheses, and opportunities.
• Develop predictive and prescriptive modeling, natural language processing (NLP), robotic process automation (RPA), text mining, clustering, forecasting, and other advanced statistical techniques.
• Design and automate processes to facilitate data manipulation and analysis.
• Manage and integrate data across dissimilar datasets, analyzing large-scale structured and unstructured data.
• Use frameworks like Spark and Hadoop for large-scale data processing.
• Perform statistical modeling and create data visualizations using tools like Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and R Shiny.
• Research, design, and implement algorithms to solve complex problems.
• Program using R, Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas), or similar analytical languages.
• Perform data engineering, data processing, and modeling techniques using cloud-based platforms such as Databricks, IBM Cloud Pak, Cloudera, and Snowflake.
• Communicate complex concepts and hypotheses to non-technical audiences through digital storytelling.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related fields). A Master’s degree is preferred.
• Proficient with one or more programming languages (Java, C++, Python, R, etc.).
• Proficient in Agile Development and Git operations.
• Demonstrated experience applying data science methods to real-world data problems.
• Minimum SECRET clearance required to start, with the willingness and ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
