Junior Computer Operator
About the role
nLogic is seeking a Computer Operator to support third shift (2330 - 0730 ET) operations in the Dayton area. The role involves monitoring high-performance computing (HPC) systems, enterprise storage arrays, and critical facility infrastructure.
Responsibilities
System & Queue Monitoring: Continuously monitor the health, availability, and utilization of HPC clusters using system dashboards and workload management software (such as Slurm).
Facility Oversight: Monitor critical data center environmental controls, including chilled water-cooling systems, power distribution units, and UPS/generator backup status. Promptly log and respond to environmental alarms.
Physical Monitoring: Utilize automated scripts to monitor HPC and infrastructure system status and performance.
Problem Response & Escalation: Act as the first line of defense for hardware faults, network disruptions, and automated system alerts. Respond to alarms or system alerts, perform initial troubleshooting, and follow established procedures and guidelines for alerting and escalating issues to technical staff.
User Support Operations: Perform initial Tier 1 help desk functions, performing basic troubleshooting and providing front-line user support in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Escalate complex or critical issues to on-call Tier 2/3 Administrators or Facilities Engineering when necessary.
Shift Handoff & Documentation: Maintain a comprehensive, chronological log of all night-shift events, actions taken, and system behaviors. Deliver a detailed shift handoff briefing to incoming morning personnel at 0700.
Required Qualifications
A High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret security clearance.
Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking concepts.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Customer-focused attitude with a desire to help others.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
Willingness to work third shift, to include weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Ace in information technology or a related field, plus two years' experience in a HPC environment.
Prior data center, IT help desk, or network operations center (NOC) experience.
Experience with Linux or other UNIX-like operating systems.
CompTIA Linux+, Security+, or equivalent certifications.
Work Conditions
Work Model: Onsite at customer facility
Travel: None or minimal based on program needs
Work Hours: Third shift (2330-0730 ET) to include weekends and holidays
