About the role
As a Junior Software Engineer on the Ad Serving team at FreeWheel, you will develop software solutions for the backbone of FreeWheel's demand-side platform (DSP) advertising business. The Ad Serving system processes billions of ad auctions daily, enabling complex bidding strategies to execute in milliseconds.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot servers and cloud-based systems.
- Write, maintain, and deploy cloud-based software and distributed computational systems using the Linux operating system.
- Develop software and software architecture using C++.
- Execute the development, testing, and deployment of new software features and improvements to cloud-based infrastructure, utilizing scalable design patterns.
- Work with data warehouses including Snowflake and distributed databases such as Aerospike.
- Analyze and optimize algorithm performance; document all development activity.
- Research, write, and edit documentation and technical requirements, including software designs, evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals, and formal recommendations.
- Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products; review literature, patents, and current practices relevant to assigned projects.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements; conduct analysis to determine integration needs.
- Work with the Quality Assurance team to ensure applications meet specifications and technical requirements.
- Review code and follow software best practices.
- Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance; ability to work nights, weekends, variable schedules, and overtime as necessary.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (or equivalent combination of coursework and experience).
- 2-5 years of relevant work experience.
- 1+ years of professional experience with compiled languages (C++ preferred), databases, and network programming.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git.
- Ability to adapt quickly to an existing, complex environment.
- Excellent debugging and troubleshooting abilities.
