Judy Center Site Specialist - Teacher

Location: Accident Elementary – Full-time, exempt position (187 workdays, generally 7.6 hours per day; hours may vary based on system needs).

About the Role

Under the direction of the Judy Center Coordinator, the Judy Center Site Specialist provides leadership and management of the Garrett County Judy Center. This role delivers consultation and interventions aligned with the twelve Judy Center Component Standards to students, parents, partnering child care providers, and classroom teachers for prenatal through age five programming within the catchment area.

Qualifications

• Valid Standard Professional Certificate/License with an endorsement in Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education issued by the Maryland State Department of Education or a comparable certificate from another state.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).
• Ability to interpret, explain, present, and use data.
• Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact successfully with diverse stakeholders (students, staff, administration, parents, general public, community agencies, etc.).
• Proficiency in a variety of technology and applications.
• Successful management of confidential information and materials.
• History of initiative, discretion, leadership, and independent judgment.
• Demonstrated understanding of and attention to detail, especially as it relates to student safety and well-being.
• History of professionalism and strong work ethic.
• Ability to work independently and as a team player.
• Ability to serve as a positive role model for students, staff, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to maintain emotional control while addressing stressful situations.
• Physical ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, balance, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, push, and pull.
• Ability to lift and transport heavy to moderately heavy objects averaging 40-60 lbs.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to use mouse, keyboard, other appropriate technology, and instructional manipulatives.
• Regular and predictable attendance.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Ability to successfully implement county classroom behavior strategies and individual student behavior plans.

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid Advanced Professional Certificate/License with an endorsement in Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education issued by the Maryland State Department of Education or a comparable certificate from another state.
• Master’s Degree, or higher, in an applicable field from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum three (3) years of teaching experience in early childhood and/or elementary education.
• Knowledge of current trends and evidenced-based interventions.

Responsibilities

• Implement activities outlined in the Judy Hoyer Grant.
• Maintain a flexible schedule to meet the requirements of Judy Center programming.
• Plan and implement evidenced-based instruction at Judy Center playgroups and family events.
• Prepare monthly enrichment lessons utilizing early childhood instructional materials.
• Establish clear goals and learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum, and knowledge of human growth and development.
• Select and use appropriate instructional strategies.
• Create an environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
• Counsel families when academic problems, behavioral problems, or home challenges arise.
• Assist with curricular alignment with the current Maryland standards (e.g., Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards and Next Generation Science Standards).
• Plan, develop, coordinate, and provide professional development for early partners (0-5 age population).
• Provide expertise, feedback, and participate in selecting and implementing materials and resources for early childhood education.
• Participate in the monthly Learning Beyond the Classroom bus activities.
• Plan and implement Judy Center playgroups and parent groups.
• Assist with the early childhood registration and enrollment process.
• Collect, maintain, and analyze relevant data.
• Establish and maintain relationships with community partners.
• Assist with grant applications and budget.
• Conduct home visits.
• Serve on special committees, as necessary.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the school, applicable programs and agencies, law, Board Policy, and Administrative Procedure.
• Account for and order classroom and program equipment and supplies, as necessary.
• Attend and actively participate in staff/faculty meetings and appropriate job-related professional development.
• Improve skill and knowledge base in subject matter, current trends, research, methodology, technology, multicultural content, problem-solving strategies, and interdisciplinary connections.
• Contribute to the short-term and long-term successes of students, staff, school, and the system in general.
• Collaborate with principals to create partnerships between Judy Center and Title I Family Events.
• Participate in PST meetings as needed and follow up with families.
• Participate in IEP/504 meetings as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Engage in life-long learning of professional and technical knowledge by attending appropriate workshops, reviewing professional publications and websites, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
• Present courteous and professional demeanor at all times.
• Demonstrate proficiency, flexibility, self-motivation, and accountability.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay

Unit I Teacher Blueprint Career Ladder Salary Scale ($60,010–$69,169), commensurate with education and experience.
