About the role

The Jr Sous Chef position at Cairns Café involves preparing and managing production for their station, supporting the culinary department, and representing the Mountain America Credit Union brand respectfully and professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage production for your station, ensuring dishes are delicious and produced on time.
  • Take ownership over guest needs and represent the MACU brand professionally.
  • Maintain high culinary standards for café dining, board meals, and future off-premises outlets.
  • Provide excellent customer service, greet guests in the dining room, and represent the MACU brand professionally.
  • Attend weekly food and beverage meetings to review results, plan for future events, and adjust strategies and activities accordingly.
  • Participate in and attend departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs as appropriate.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs.

Requirements

  • 5 years experience in restaurants, hotels, and/or related food service operations.
  • Heavily preferred 1+ years fine dining or country club experience or similar caliber operation.
  • Preferred catering experience, any caliber.
  • Observable zest for food, beverage, and guest service.
  • AOS Culinary or 5 years' experience in related field mentioned above.
  • Current Food Handlers Permit.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and compliance with guest service standards and health department regulations.
  • High level of cleanliness on your station and in any area of the kitchen you work.
  • Strong leadership potential and desire to work in a values-based organization.
  • Educated in kitchen speak and common terms including cooking terms and service language.
  • Proactive problem solver and willing to learn and continually update knowledge base.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Physical demands: close vision, distance vision, manual dexterity, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, and climbing.
  • Environmental factors: fire, hot oil, hot surfaces, knives, cleaning chemicals, moderate noise, hood system, pots clanking, scraping, hammering, chopping.

Skills

  • Demonstrated moderate skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and ability to navigate online ordering and company websites.
  • Demonstrated proficient skills operating all kitchen equipment.
  • Strong leadership potential and desire to work in a values-based organization.
  • Educated in kitchen speak and common terms including cooking terms and service language.
  • Proactive problem solver and willing to learn and continually update knowledge base.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
