Astrodyne TDI is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer with an electrical engineering or computer science background who is passionate about embedded firmware and hardware design. The ideal candidate thrives in both digital and analog problem-solving and has experience or curiosity in fields like IoT, robotics, DSP, UAVs, or hobbyist embedded projects. Moderate proficiency in any programming language or IDE demonstrates aptitude for this role. We are open to training candidates who possess raw talent, a strong drive to learn, and the ability to execute effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an individual firmware/software contributor for 16/32-bit microcontrollers.
  • Write firmware in C for bare-metal applications.
  • Understand board-level schematics for internally designed embedded controllers.
  • Debug using in-circuit debuggers, logic analyzers, UART terminals, and signal toggles.
  • Perform hands-on lab troubleshooting with the power engineering team for system-level debug.
  • Assist operations, production, and quality teams with power supply development and troubleshooting.
  • Carry out and document system design verification, characterization, and validation testing.
  • Prepare status reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent pertinent experience.
  • A minimum of 1+ years of hands-on experience developing and troubleshooting hardware or software (preferably both, including hobbyist work).
  • Knowledge of microcontroller hardware and system-on-chip (SoC) peripherals, including configuration and integration into designs.
  • Experience with common embedded communication protocols such as CAN, TCP/IP, USB, SPI, I2C, and UART in real-time environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Git or other source control repository systems.
  • Proficiency in C, C#, JavaScript, or HTML, though any language used in an embedded context is acceptable.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience with breadboarding and circuit prototyping.
  • Knowledge of common digital and analog circuitry.
  • Familiarity with middleware such as LWIP, FreeRTOS, Azure RTOS, or embedded HAL libraries.
  • Experience creating documentation for firmware requirements.

Pay

$70,000–$80,000 per year.
