About the role
Ralph L Wadsworth is seeking a Junior Estimator to join their team immediately. This role will collaborate closely with Senior Estimator, Project Owners, Vendors, Subcontractors, Project Managers, and the Chief Estimator.
Responsibilities
- Review proposal specifications and drawings and attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Prepare estimates by calculating various statistical data such as quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, and equipment costs and apply to complete scope of work.
- Review/research historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compile summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
- Incorporate historical data into unit and man-hour figures.
- Participate in developing bid package estimate documents.
- Maintain files of working documents for backup to estimating figures including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
- May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
- Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, etc.
- Involved with takeoffs and project engineer responsibilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college, technical school, or university in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- 1 - 2 past internships in heavy civil, commercial building, or road construction.
- 1 - 2 past internships working with sub-contractors.
- 1 - 2 college estimating courses and/or estimating internship.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent communications to individuals outside the company. Past similar work experience is preferred.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Attention to details and asking follow-up questions multiple times to gather correct information and timely information.
- Good knowledge of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and calculate mathematical extensions. Also, good knowledge of geometric formulas and equations are required to calculate area, volume, etc. in performing take-offs.
- Able to demonstrate the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
