Jr. Cabin Counselor - Summer Overnight Camp, YMCA Camp Classen

About the role

Responsibilities

• Helps supervise a group of children.
• Provide a safe environment for children.
• Helps plan, implement, and lead program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
• Dedication to job, camp participants, and the YMCA cause.
• Must be able to self-regulate emotions in a fast-paced community environment.
• Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
• Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children, and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Knows where all group members are at all times.
• Maintains appearance of camp through cleanliness and setup, with a "It's My Camp" attitude.
• Actively engages children and participants in activities.
• Reports all injuries and incidents to the Director or Coordinator.
• Attends all scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
• Displays YMCA character values (Honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility) at all times.
• Serves as a supervisor during swim time; staff are required to supervise both in and out of the water.
• Acts as a servant leader to help the overall success of camp.

Qualifications

• Must be 17 years of age.
• Must have an interest in working with youth and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy.
• Certifications: CPR, AED & First Aid.
• Must complete Red Woods Online Training within 30 days of hire date.
• Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.

Benefits

• Starting Pay $200.00 per week, plus room & board.
• Additional pay for specialized certifications (e.g., Lifeguard, ropes and more).
• Housing is provided for the summer.
• Camp Shirts are provided.
• Meals are provided when dining hall is open.
• All training certification costs and time are paid for.
• Free laundry facilities and wifi are located in or near staff housing.

• Ability to plan, lead, and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Will require outdoor work during the summer months. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
