About the role

Journeyman Lineman and Troublemen positions are available in the East and Coastal Regions of Georgia. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assignment location and be available for emergency "call-out" and travel outside the state for storm emergencies.

Job Duties

  • Pole Climbing (up to 60 feet)
  • Working in an overhead position while on the pole
  • Pulling and splicing wires
  • Installing Electrical Service (pole to pole OR pole to service point)
  • Operating/Driving Company Trucks including Bucket Trucks
  • Operating heavy equipment (Backhoe or similar equipment)
  • Working in adverse conditions outdoors - day and night hours
  • Operating Electrical system - Transmission, Substation and Distribution Switching
  • Writing Switching Orders
  • Troubleshooting

Job Requirements

  • Experience as a Journeyman Lineman with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the electric utility industry and 3 years of Journeyman Lineman experience working with voltages above 600 volts
  • Overhead distribution experience (up to 25Kv) required
  • Underground distribution experience (up to 25Kv) preferred
  • Previous experience working on the Georgia Power system highly preferred
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Successfully completed the company's pre-employment New Journeyman Evaluation
  • Familiar with work involving energized conductors required
  • Construction and maintenance line work is desirable
  • Familiar with heavy equipment directly related to line work skill sets

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of hand tools
  • Experience using hydraulic and battery tools
  • Previous experience with material handling bucket trucks
  • Knowledge of when and how to apply proper cover-up in energized situations
  • Proficient climber up to 60 feet
  • Knowledge of circuit protection
  • Ability to take instructions, directions and translate into actions
  • Familiar with industry standard safe work practices

Other Requirements

  • Available for scheduled or emergency call out which could include evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Available to travel outside of the state for storm restoration as needed
  • Currently holds a valid driver's license and "Class A" CDL is required
  • Current DOT drug screen required
  • Thorough background check required

Pay

The starting salary for a Lineman is $53.52/hr or $9277/mo. (non-negotiable and level of experience does not apply). This pay is governed by the collective bargaining agreement between Georgia Power and IBEW Local 84.

Schedule
