About the role
Journeyman Lineman and Troublemen positions are available in the East and Coastal Regions of Georgia. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assignment location and be available for emergency "call-out" and travel outside the state for storm emergencies.
Job Duties
- Pole Climbing (up to 60 feet)
- Working in an overhead position while on the pole
- Pulling and splicing wires
- Installing Electrical Service (pole to pole OR pole to service point)
- Operating/Driving Company Trucks including Bucket Trucks
- Operating heavy equipment (Backhoe or similar equipment)
- Working in adverse conditions outdoors - day and night hours
- Operating Electrical system - Transmission, Substation and Distribution Switching
- Writing Switching Orders
- Troubleshooting
Job Requirements
- Experience as a Journeyman Lineman with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the electric utility industry and 3 years of Journeyman Lineman experience working with voltages above 600 volts
- Overhead distribution experience (up to 25Kv) required
- Underground distribution experience (up to 25Kv) preferred
- Previous experience working on the Georgia Power system highly preferred
- Leadership experience preferred
- Successfully completed the company's pre-employment New Journeyman Evaluation
- Familiar with work involving energized conductors required
- Construction and maintenance line work is desirable
- Familiar with heavy equipment directly related to line work skill sets
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of hand tools
- Experience using hydraulic and battery tools
- Previous experience with material handling bucket trucks
- Knowledge of when and how to apply proper cover-up in energized situations
- Proficient climber up to 60 feet
- Knowledge of circuit protection
- Ability to take instructions, directions and translate into actions
- Familiar with industry standard safe work practices
Other Requirements
- Available for scheduled or emergency call out which could include evenings, weekends and holidays
- Available to travel outside of the state for storm restoration as needed
- Currently holds a valid driver's license and "Class A" CDL is required
- Current DOT drug screen required
- Thorough background check required
Pay
The starting salary for a Lineman is $53.52/hr or $9277/mo. (non-negotiable and level of experience does not apply). This pay is governed by the collective bargaining agreement between Georgia Power and IBEW Local 84.
