Journeyman Lineman (Distribution) - Louisiana
About the role
A Journeyman Lineman at Irby Construction Company classification will have received their training in an approved forty-two (42) month apprenticeship program or a certified testing program or must have five (5) years of continuous substation/line construction/maintenance experience. Journeyman Linemen shall have a working knowledge of all aspects of substation/line work and have the capability and expertise to work independently if required.
THE DISTRIBUTION JOURNEYMAN OPENINGS WILL BE FROM NEW ORLEANS TO LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA.
Responsibilities
- Has worked in the line industry as an apprentice lineman for at least 4 years
- Must be able to conduct a Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) as required
- Perform work in a safe manner on energized and de-energized distribution systems
- Capable of safely installing and removing cover up material
- Strives to troubleshoot problems on distribution systems
- Understands procedures to safely dig holes in the presence of underground utilities
- Capable of safely setting/ replacing poles (wooden, steel, concrete) on an energized distribution system
- Understands minimum approach distances
- Capable of properly inspecting rubber goods, cover materials, and PPE
- The skill sets to safely operate a digger derrick and bucket truck
- Inspects, maintains company equipment, and trucks in safe working order
- Capable of safely installing and removing mechanical jumpers
- Understands safe heavy lifting and rigging procedures
Requirements

- May be required to hold a valid class “B” commercial driver’s license
- May be required to read and interpret blueprints
- Drives and operates conveyance machinery equipped with tools and materials to and from job site
- Adheres to all Company Safety and Health Policies
- Works with limited supervision
- Lifting and handling materials up to 60 pounds unassisted
- Climb wooden poles and towers
- Walking and working across uneven terrain
- Climbing on and off large trucks and equipment
- Exposure to hot and cold weather conditions
Qualifications
