Responsibilities
- Construct, maintain, and retain working knowledge of YVEA transmission and distribution electrical system, including:
- Clearing right-of-way
- Digging pole and anchor holes
- Framing poles
- Setting poles and anchors
- Stringing, sagging, armor rodding, and tying in of conductors
- Making up and installing downguys
- Installing and maintaining underground equipment, cable, and special underground switches
- Install transformers, transformer banks, breakers, take-off assemblies, services, regulators, streetlights, meters, lightning arrester equipment, etc., on energized or de-energized lines.
- Maintain and repair switching structures and substations.
- Maintain and test oil circuit breakers, oil circuit reclosers, sectionalizers, and transformers.
- Read operations counters and forward recorded information.
- Patrol transmission and distribution lines and report conditions needing maintenance in writing.
- Assist meter technician in constructing or maintaining C.T. and P.T. meter installations.
- Test and report voltage conditions, perform load checks, balance loads, and conduct load and voltage surveys.
- Perform standby duties to answer trouble calls as scheduled.
- Maintain assigned vehicles and tools in safe operating condition; refer vehicle repair work to the mechanic.
- Complete reports related to job briefings, truck maintenance, daily time and mileage, staking sheets, oil samples, switching orders, transformer changes, OCR & sectionalizer changes, pole and underground maintenance, and outage reports.
- Account for materials used and returned, including loading and unloading.
- Oversee performance and quality of workmanship on the crew/apprentice.
- Maintain and test rubber goods.
- Perform miscellaneous duties such as loading/unloading poles and transformers, reading meters, testing meters, operating two-way radios, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of a qualified four-year apprentice lineman/line-worker training program with certification, or proof of previous employment as a journeyman lineman by another utility with a minimum of 4 years' experience.
- Class A CDL with a satisfactory driving and safety record.
Skills
- Working knowledge of duties associated with the position, including RUS Electrical/Fiber construction specifications and portions of the National Electric Safety Code.
- Proficiency in Lock Out Tag Out procedures and taking clearances.
- Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic.
- Clear and professional communication with coworkers and members.
- Ability to follow directions, prioritize tasks, and analyze information.
- Thorough knowledge of first aid and CPR.
- Ability to use a tablet and smartphone, and learn industry software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining effective working relationships.
