Amentum is looking for an experienced HVAC Mechanic to join our team in Springfield, VA.
About the role
The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic installs, modifies, and repairs refrigeration systems (hermetic, semi-hermetic, mechanical, screw, scroll, and centrifugal units up to 1100 tons), air conditioning, ventilation, reverse osmosis systems, computer rooms, process coolers, ice machines, evaporative cooling, air compressing, and related control systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and building control systems equipment. Maintains and repairs stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries.
Must possess and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance.
Responsibilities
- Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs Honeywell Enterprise Building Integrator (EBI) Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems and related mechanical equipment, such as HVAC and utilities.
- Assures calibration and maintenance of instrumentation, equipment, and controls for optimum performance.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment, including motors, engines, pumps, belts, fans, air handling units, VAV, and fan-powered boxes.
- Maintains the safe operation of systems, including electronic/pneumatic environmental controls, oil/gas-fired water tube boilers, and auxiliary equipment (e.g., pumps, de-aerating tanks, air compressor blowers).
- Quickly becomes familiar with the design and layout of facilities, locations of environmental control/monitoring systems, and operating procedures.
- Serves as Site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for recommendations on site operations procedures and facilities reliability improvements.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists maintenance workers in solving them.
- Demonstrates attention to detail, analytical skills, and strong organizational abilities.
- Operates hand tools, computers, and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
- Performs complex installation tasks, including assembly, testing, calibrating, and adjusting temperature and environmental control systems (e.g., air conditioning plants, air distribution systems, dual equipment cooling, specialized refrigerated warehouses, evaporative mechanical ventilation, dehumidification).
- Installs new or repaired components and performs complex modifications of systems in accordance with applicable electrical publications and directives.
- Maintains and repairs specialized laboratory equipment (e.g., fume hoods, de-ionized water systems, bio-clean systems, vacuum systems, cascade refrigeration systems, laboratory sinks).
- Performs complex repairs on system components, including compressors, condensers, heat pumps, regulators, fluid/refrigerant gas lines, valves, meters, gages, thermostats, pumps, mechanical linkage, and electrical sensing/switching/controlling devices (e.g., pneumatic controls, variable speed drives, digital-controlled devices, electronic/hydraulic heating/cooling, economizer systems).
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Formal or informal education/training ensuring the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- Minimum of five years of HVAC Mechanic experience.
- Ability to lift 45 lbs.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) preferred.
Pay
US $49.12 per hour
