Troubleshooting and Repair

Conducts, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components in an industrial setting. Includes troubleshooting and repairing Programmable/Numeral Controls, PLC’s, Drives, VFD’s, Switch Gear Panels and Power Supplies, Sensors, Gauges and Test Equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
  • Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
  • Advises operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
  • Informs appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
  • Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
  • Aids maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
  • Aids and trains other maintenance and/or other technical level employees.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma and two years of formal technical training.
  • Must have proven knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical design.
  • Must have a valid MN Electrician License.
  • Must have two years of Journeyman’s experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures from blueprints, schematics and sketches or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Must have proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
  • Must have a high degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
  • Exposed to high voltage electricity.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Must be highly safety conscious.
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment, and especially must be able to interface and communicate with line operators in order to assist with repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Willing to work any shift and overtime as required.
  • Must be willing to travel as there may be some overnight field service work involved from time to time, this may also include traveling with very short notice at times.

Nature and Scope of Job

  • Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 100+ pounds and/or frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 50+ pounds and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 20+ pounds.
  • Frequent and continual movement as follows, often several of movements simultaneously (i.e., handle while crouching, carry while kneeling): Kneel, Crouch/Squat, Crawl, Bend, Reach, Handle, Turn/twist, Bending, Stopping, Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling, Turning/twisting, Bending, Reaching, Handling, Repeating wrist, hand, and finger motions.
  • Consistently exposed to weather conditions, fumes, and loud noise.
