About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Journeyman Electrician to oversee electrical installations, maintenance, and repair projects. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership abilities, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and quality. This role involves supervising apprentices and journeyman electricians, ensuring compliance with electrical codes, and coordinating tasks with project managers and other trades.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Supervision
- Work in conjunction with the Foreman, General Foreman, and Electrical Superintendent to maximize workflow and crew oversight.
- Lead and oversee electrical crews on commercial, industrial, and/or residential projects.
- Train, mentor, and oversee journeymen and apprentices, ensuring work quality and efficiency.
- Electrical Installations & Repairs
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including wiring, fixtures, and circuit breakers.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams to ensure accurate installations.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical problems, resolving issues efficiently.
- Perform inspections and testing to verify system functionality and safety.
- Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), state, and local regulations.
- Proficient in working with various conduit types, including bending EMT and Rigid conduit, utilizing triple nickel and benders for diverse applications.
- Coordination & Compliance
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other trades to ensure timely project completion.
- Maintain inventory of electrical supplies and order materials as needed.
- Enforce and promote workplace safety policies, including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE usage.
- Document work progress, inspections, and material usage for reporting purposes.
Qualifications
- A valid Journeyman Electrician License (State-specific certification required).
- 5+ years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician (leadership experience preferred).
- Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and electrical schematics.
- Experience with commercial and industrial electrical systems is a plus.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
Working Conditions
- This position requires outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions.
- This role may occasionally require working in high, precarious places; near fumes or airborne particles; and handling toxic or caustic chemicals.
- There is also a risk of electrical shock and vibration in certain situations.
- The work environment noise level is usually loud.
Physical Demands
- This position may require frequent travel by motor vehicle.
- The role may involve extended hours on construction sites, necessitating physical stamina to move around the premises.
- The ability to lift and/or move materials and tools is essential, with a maximum weight limit of 50lbs. These tasks may vary and are not required to be performed daily.
Travel Requirements
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to job sites as needed. Travel requirements may vary based on project locations and business needs.
