Journeyman-Electrician

Under the direction of the Plant Facilities Manager, the Journeyman Electrician monitors and maintains all electrical equipment, lighting, assists in telecommunication/data, snow removal, and general maintenance of the complex which includes the Arena, Expo’s, and Conference Center.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the upkeep of day-to-day operations and ensuring electrical requests for events are completed.
• Maintains electrical panels, lighting equipment, electrical components, and monitors/service generator equipment.
• Assists with maintaining boilers, chillers, air handlers, air compressors, ice making equipment, fire systems, and any other related equipment through daily inspections and/or computer analysis adjustments. Performs routine parts repair or replacement as needed.
• Assists/completes pulling fiber and CAT cabling, terminates CAT 5/6 cable, and patches networks through in-house patch panels.
• Plans, directs, and participates in the preventive maintenance program for all systems related to equipment and the general maintenance of the Arena, Expo’s, and Conference Center.
• Trains part-time employees, determines work priorities, and assigns duties.
• Assists with fire alarm installation and troubleshooting.
• Consults with manufacturer representatives and engineers to maintain and acquire knowledge of new equipment and procedures.
• Orders and maintains inventory of equipment and repair parts.
• Assists with preparing specifications for new equipment, reviews bids, and supervises installation of new equipment.
• Assists with resolving periodic issues due to inspections conducted by state agencies and insurance company representatives.
• Assists with snow removal during the winter months.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
• Ensures Electrical and Fire codes are followed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Journeyman’s license (requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience).
• Extensive knowledge of Electrical Codes and NFPA Codes.
• Ability to troubleshoot major and minor issues.
• Ability to navigate on a computer (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to use a variety of tools, meters, and schematics to troubleshoot all electrical and electronic equipment.
• Ability to work with little to no supervision.
• Extensive knowledge of and ability to diagnose problems, repair and/or replace electric/electronic controls, boilers, chillers, air handling units, pumps, AC inverters, and units.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train others to complete tasks and projects.
• Strong supervisory skills.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment.
• Valid Driver’s License to operate equipment and County-owned vehicles (required).
• NFPA Certification (preferred).
• CDL-B license (preferred).

Working Conditions

• Works in an Arena facility requiring frequent walking, some sitting and standing, and frequent lifting up to forty pounds, pushing and/or pulling loads.
• Very frequent bending, reaching overhead, kneeling, crawling, and climbing ladders, including working at heights up to 150 feet above the ground and on catwalks.
• Must be able to type, proofread, pay attention to detail, monitor equipment, and perform detailed inspections.
• Required to work outdoors during extreme weather conditions with exposure to dirt, grease, slippery surfaces, and high and low temperatures.
• Safety precautions must be observed at all times to ensure the safety of self and others.

Schedule

Normal working hours are 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. Must be available to work event shifts, which vary depending on each event and include working nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call 24/7 in case of emergencies.
