JOIN OUR TEAM! Sawmill Maintenance Manager (POV)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments for sawmill equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues.
- Maintain and support safe operation of saws, conveyors, log handling systems, motors, controls, and production equipment.
- Plan and perform preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
- Respond quickly to equipment failures and restore safe production operations.
- Inspect equipment for wear, damage, alignment issues, leaks, and safety concerns.
- Communicate repair needs, downtime issues, and maintenance priorities to management.
- Maintain maintenance records and support equipment upgrades, fabrication, welding, and improvement projects.
- Follow and support all safety policies, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, electrical safety, and safe maintenance practices.
- Identify and help correct unsafe conditions and communicate safety concerns promptly.
- Ensure equipment is returned to service only when it is safe to operate.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial, sawmill, lumber, manufacturing, or similar environment.
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and equipment troubleshooting and repair.
- Ability to perform hands-on maintenance, diagnose issues, and implement effective repairs.
- Comfortable working safely around saws, conveyors, moving equipment, forklifts, and industrial systems.
- Ability to read and follow manuals, diagrams, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong communication skills with management, production teams, and vendors.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with limited supervision.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Bonus if you have prior sawmill, pallet, lumber, wood products, or heavy industrial maintenance experience.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
- Experience with welding/fabrication and common mechanical components (bearings, chains, belts, gearboxes, motors, sensors, controls).
- PLC, motor control, VFD, or industrial electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Experience supporting safety programs and equipment guarding/lockout-tagout improvements.
- Forklift, loader, manlift, or mobile equipment experience.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. Production schedules typically do not include Friday production, creating an important opportunity for planned repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, and downtime projects. Overtime, weekends, call-ins, or schedule flexibility may be required based on equipment needs and project work.
Hours
Mon to Thurs 7 AM to 4:30 PM and Friday 7 AM to noon.
Work Environment
This role is performed in an industrial pine sawmill environment with exposure to noise, sawdust, moving equipment, logs, sharp cutting equipment, vibration, weather conditions, hydraulic and electrical systems, and varying temperatures. You may stand, walk, climb, bend/kneel, reach, use tools, and perform occasional lifting or material handling as needed.
