About the role

The W.G. (Bill Hefner) Salisbury VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time Sleep and Pulmonary Medicine Physician to join our collaborative, mission-driven team serving Veterans and their families.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care in sleep and pulmonary medicine, including diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management.
• Perform sleep and pulmonary histories, exams, and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Order and oversee testing, therapies, and equipment such as CPAP and ventilators.
• Support multidisciplinary care and collaborate with other services.
• Educate staff through lectures and participate in quality improvement and committee activities.
• Manage non-face-to-face consultations via telehealth.
• For ICU coverage, provide invasive ventilator management.
• Diagnose and treat sleep disorders, including sleep-disordered breathing.
• Prescribe and manage medications and alternative therapies for sleep disorders.
• Counsel and educate patients on treatment options and proper device use.

Requirements

• MD/DO with completion of an accredited residency
• Board certified/eligible in Sleep & Pulmonary Medicine
• Preference for candidates with fellowship training in Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine (Critical Care training desired, but optional)
• Board Certification (ABIM) preferred; board eligibility considered
• U.S. Citizenship required (non-citizens considered per VA policy if qualified citizens are unavailable)

• No physician employment contract or major moonlighting restrictions

• Strong clinical skills in sleep and pulmonary medicine
