About the role

Retail associate position at the Northwest Nature Shop, a specialty store offering nature-themed books, gifts, outdoor gear, birding supplies, and educational toys. The shop serves customers interested in birds, wildlife, gardening, hiking, and eco-living.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with product selection, recommendations, and purchases in-store and by phone.
• Manage inventory, restock shelves, and maintain product displays.
• Operate the point-of-sale system, handle cash, and process transactions.
• Provide knowledgeable guidance on nature-related products, including bird feeders, field guides, outdoor gear, and educational toys.
• Support store events, promotions, and seasonal product rollouts (e.g., holiday gift guides, spring/summer outdoor gear).
• Answer customer inquiries about local hiking trails, birding hotspots, and nature activities in Southern Oregon.
• Collaborate with staff to create engaging in-store displays and themed product sections (e.g., "For the Bird Lover," "For the Gardener," "Gifts for Kids").

Requirements

• Interest in nature, wildlife, birding, gardening, or outdoor recreation.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to engage with diverse customers, including families, hikers, and nature enthusiasts.
• Basic math skills and comfort handling cash and operating a POS system.
• Ability to lift and move boxes (up to 30 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
• Familiarity with local ecology, hiking trails, or nature-related products is a plus.
• Availability to work weekends, holidays, and peak retail hours (e.g., holiday seasons).
