Job Description

Anticipated Salary: Teacher/Counselor Pay Scale. This is an exempt position. Time Off Plan: 10 days of PTO, 6 weeks of summer break, all teacher/counselor holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers specific course content in an on-line environment.
  • Provides instruction, support and guidance, manages the learning process, and focuses on students' individual needs.
  • Makes sure students achieve specific JAG competencies through classroom instruction.
  • Tailors the program and teaching methods for the needs of each specific student and implements an intervention strategy for each participant using an Individualized Development Plan.
  • Holds interviews with prospective candidates and those making referrals to determine, using JAG guidelines, the appropriateness of the prospective student for the program.
  • Administers testing programs including JAG pre-/post-assessments and career interest surveys.
  • Develops and maintains positive, effective working relationships with school personnel including teachers, administrators, students, and members of the in-school Advisory Committee.
  • Works with employers, parents, civic groups, and legislators to build awareness of and support for the program; develops job opportunities, participates in public relations activities, attends meetings and speaks to various community groups.
  • Organizes social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs, outings, marketing events or other extracurricular activities as required.
  • Travels to testing sites to proctor state exams.
  • Supports students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment including basic computer troubleshooting.
  • Understands how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support.
  • Works collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among the stakeholders.
  • Responds to students, parents, and colleagues in a timely manner.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social service, counseling, business, education, or a related discipline.
  • Valid SC teaching certification.
  • Experience working with high school populations.

Skills

  • Human relations, leadership, supervision, and motivational techniques.
  • Ability to work twelve (12) months per year OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities consistent with the JAG Model.
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
  • Ability to problem solve independently and have a high level of organization.
  • Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and able to act to preserve integrity on other people's deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word; PowerPoint.
  • Rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum.
  • Ability to clear required background check.

Preferred Education And/or Experience

  • Experience working with proposed age group.
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
  • Experience working in a virtual environment.
  • Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick and mortar environment.
  • Experience with Blackboard Collaborative, Newrow, or other online platforms.

Location

All staff must reside in the state of South Carolina. This Position Is Remote With The Following Travel Expectations:

  • Attend local student outing 1-2 times per semester.
  • Attend in-person professional development 1-3 times per semester.
  • Attend back-to-school professional development in July (1-3 consecutive days).
  • Participate in in-person student testing.
