About the role
The Gates Chili Central School District is seeking support staff for various vacancies at the July 17, 2026 Job Fair. Positions available include Teacher Aide, School Aide, Cafeteria Monitor/Hall Monitor, Cleaner, Food Service Worker, Bus Driver, Secretary, Security Worker, and Micro-Computer Maintenance Technician.
Responsibilities
- Teacher Aide/School Aide & Cafeteria/Hall Monitor: Assists students with academic assignments, social emotional and self-regulation skills, performs clerical duties, assists with student accommodations, supervises students, assists with toileting, eating and basic care needs.
- Cafeteria/Hall Monitor: Assists with student activities, instructs passengers on safety practices, maintains bus conduct, assists with boarding and exiting, cleans and fuels buses, operates vans.
- Cleaner: Sweeps, dusts, polishes floors, cleans bathrooms, vacuums carpets, empties waste containers, fills dispensers, secures and locks doors, straightens furniture, washes whiteboards, cleans windows and mirrors.
- Food Service Worker: Prepares and serves meals, sets up serving lines, cleans kitchen and dining room, serves as cashier, performs other related duties.
- Bus Driver: Drives school buses, performs pre- and post-trip inspections, reports defects, instructs passengers, assists with boarding and exiting, cleans vehicles, operates vans.
- Secretary: Performs administrative tasks, assists with clerical duties, performs other related duties.
- Security Worker: Maintains safe and orderly conduct on buses, assists with student management, operates hydraulic lifts, cleans vehicles, performs other related duties.
- Micro-Computer Maintenance Technician: Performs maintenance on computer systems, performs other related duties.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or high school equivalency diploma, plus one year of full-time or equivalent experience in a clerical capacity, or one year of full-time or equivalent experience working with children, or a certificate of completion from an occupational school, The American Red Cross, or similar agency.
- Valid New York State driver’s license for the vehicle operated.
- Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of school organization, ability to follow instructions, ability to obtain student cooperation, ability to give instructions, ability to work with students and school personnel, ability to understand and deal with student behavior, ability to maintain simple records, tact, patience, dependability, good judgment, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
- Working knowledge of principles of a balanced diet, regulations of the National School Lunch Program, and Department of Health requirements, working knowledge of portion control, proper methods of preparing and serving food, proper care and safe operation of kitchen equipment and appliances, working knowledge of care and use of china, silver, glassware, and kitchen utensils, working knowledge of operation of industrial dish washers and the use of associated detergents, working knowledge of use and application of cleaning supplies, ability to follow oral and written directions, ability to prepare and serve food with proper regard to sanitary principles, ability to receive and make correct change, ability to deal effectively with students, faculty, and other diners, willingness to perform routine low-skill work, dependability, health commensurate with the demands of the position.
- Working knowledge of building cleaning procedures, materials, and equipment, working knowledge of cleaning agents and proper applications, ability to follow oral and written instructions, ability to operate a vacuum cleaner, willingness to perform repetitive cleaning tasks, ability to use cleaning agents and electrical equipment safely, dependability, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Schedule
- Teacher Aide/School Aide: Full-time 10-month, 6.5 hours/day
- Cafeteria/Hall Monitor: Part-time 10-month, 4 hours/day
- Cleaner: Full-time 12-month, 8 hours/day
- Food Service Worker: Part-time 10-month, hours vary
- Bus Driver: Full-time 10-month, minimum 5 hours/day
- Secretary: Full-time 12-month, 7.5 - 8 hours/day
