About the Role

Our team members are our brand ambassadors, ensuring guests experience a fun, relaxed and exceptional dining experience. Servers are responsible for ensuring our guests receive the best dining experience through execution of steps of service. All servers work in unison contributing to the guests’ dining experience by providing amazing service and full menu knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Serve guests in a professional and positive manner, including taking food and beverage orders, delivering food and beverages, and ensuring an exceptional dining experience.
• Utilize JINYA’s steps of service, up-selling techniques, and proper menu knowledge to guide guests to daily specials, accommodate dietary needs, and highlight our unique ramen and tapas offerings.
• Greet guests as they arrive, manage seating arrangements, check reservations, and provide accurate wait-list times when necessary.
• Engage with guests to ensure a great dining experience.
• Embrace the JINYA culture by participating in collective greetings such as “Irasshai” and “Arigato.”
• Communicate clearly and concisely in a positive and professional manner with guests and team members, both front and back of house.
• Answer phone calls, take reservations, and assign guests to tables while maintaining consistent server rotation.
• Ensure cleanliness of the service station and any area visible to guests upon seating.
• Support team members in front-of-house operations, including refilling beverages, organizing table arrangements, table maintenance, polishing plates or glasses, and resetting tables.
• Respond to minor guest complaints and alert management of any major or critical guest or service concerns.
• Know restaurant information such as hours of operation, menu details, allergens, table numbers, payment options, and other relevant operational details.
• Promote and execute JINYA’s core values: Teamwork, Hospitality, Authenticity, Creativity, and Integrity.
• Complete projects and tasks as requested by managers or supervisors.

Requirements

• Minimum 2-3 years of server experience, preferably in a high-volume atmosphere.
• Outstanding and professional verbal and written communication skills; strong ability to multi-task.
• Positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and follow simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Willingness to follow instructions and ask questions for clarification when needed.
• Experience operating POS systems or host systems (e.g., OpenTable or similar).
• Ability to lead by example, inspire team spirit, and present information effectively in one-on-one or small group settings.
• Dependable, reliable, self-motivated, and proactive in maintaining restaurant cleanliness and presentation.
• Experience working in a multicultural environment.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Able to work in a standing position for long periods and safely lift up to 50 pounds.
• Able to maneuver through limited restaurant space.
• Appropriate city, state, and federal certifications, including alcohol and food handling certificates.
• Ability to write and speak English fluently.

Work Environment

This role operates in a fun yet professional restaurant environment. Servers routinely move inside and outside of the kitchen and handle tools such as trays, glassware, and plates. The role may require ascending/descending ladders to reach overhead items. Frequent communication with staff, guests, and team members is required to exchange accurate and factual information.

• Must be able to distinguish between sweet, savory, and other food flavors.
• Work in indoor and outdoor environments that may be hot, humid, or wet.
