Jeff Temp - Surgical Tech Educator

Under the direction of the Operating Room Nurse Manager or Operating Room Clinical Practice Leader, the Surgical Tech Trainer functions as a member of the intraoperative healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the onboarding, education, training, and competency of surgical technicians
• Serve as the expert and consultant for all procedural areas throughout the organization related to sterile technique
• Collaborate with the Operating Room Clinical Practice Leader to support Peri-OP 101 training programs
• Oversee the TJUH surgical technician training program in collaboration with MedCerts
• Onboard new hires
• Provide education to new and existing operating room staff (surgical techs and RNs)
• Provide education and training in the scrub role to the Labor & Delivery Department
• Assist with training for the Peri-Op 101 program
• Oversee surgical technician students from affiliated programs
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Certificate or diploma from an accredited surgical technologist program
• CST or TS-C certification
• BLS certification
• 5 years of operating room experience
• Proficiency in aseptic technique, knowledge of various surgical procedures, and proper handling of surgical instruments
• Ability to teach skills required of a surgical technician
• Previous teaching experience (preferred)
