Under the direction of the Operating Room Nurse Manager or Operating Room Clinical Practice Leader, the Surgical Tech Trainer functions as a member of the intraoperative healthcare team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the onboarding, education, training, and competency of surgical technicians
- Serve as the expert and consultant for all procedural areas throughout the organization related to sterile technique
- Collaborate with the Operating Room Clinical Practice Leader to support Peri-OP 101 training programs
- Oversee the TJUH surgical technician training program in collaboration with MedCerts
- Onboard new hires
- Provide education to new and existing operating room staff (surgical techs and RNs)
- Provide education and training in the scrub role to the Labor & Delivery Department
- Assist with training for the Peri-Op 101 program
- Oversee surgical technician students from affiliated programs
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Certificate or diploma from an accredited surgical technologist program
- CST or TS-C certification
- BLS certification
- 5 years of operating room experience
- Proficiency in aseptic technique, knowledge of various surgical procedures, and proper handling of surgical instruments
- Ability to teach skills required of a surgical technician
- Previous teaching experience (preferred)
