Java Developer/Programmer

Responsibilities

• Oversight of coding, testing, and debugging of programs according to technical and functional requirements.
• Preparation of test data and creation of flowcharts and diagrams.
• Preparation and coordination of instructions for production runs and user manuals.
• Research, analysis, and proposal development for project requirements, software modifications, and new projects.
• Analysis of proposed applications for equipment and capability requirements, database schemas, and program efficiency.
• Analysis of logs, system messages, and application issues for troubleshooting.
• Scheduling work and coordinating programming projects with staff members.
• Creation of detailed analyses, plans, diagrams, and verification procedures for computer applications.
• Development of programming standards and procedures for the team, and implementation of specialized programs.
• Creation and maintenance of backup and restore processes for business continuity.
• Coordination, assignment, and tracking of work for programming projects.

Requirements

• 15+ years of hands-on experience in Java development.
• 10+ years of experience with SQL databases, including design, querying, and optimization.
• 8+ years of experience in application development and production support for large-scale enterprise applications.
• 5+ years of experience in Linux environments.

Preferred Skills

• 8+ years of experience with the Atlassian tool suite, particularly JIRA.
• 8+ years of experience in Agile software development environments.
• 2+ years of experience supporting State of Texas applications, preferably within the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) environment.
• 2+ years of experience transitioning applications from legacy mainframe platforms to Java/SQL-based environments.
