About the role

Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is seeking a dependable Janitor to maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of our Blackwood facility and surrounding grounds. Reporting to the Program Manager, this role helps ensure a safe, clean, and presentable environment for clients, staff, and visitors. This position is ideal for someone with janitorial or housekeeping experience who takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and can work reliably in a busy human services setting.

A clean and well-maintained facility supports health, safety, dignity, and effective service delivery. In this role, your work helps create an environment where clients and staff can feel comfortable, respected, and safe every day.

Responsibilities

• Maintain daily cleanliness of the facility’s interior
• Ensure the building and surrounding exterior areas remain clean and presentable
• Empty trash cans daily and ensure waste is properly discarded
• Keep dumpster areas sanitary and orderly
• Sanitize trash cans and replace liners as needed
• Clean, deodorize, and sanitize bathrooms and ensure they are properly supplied each day
• Sweep, mop, dust mop, and vacuum floors daily
• Strip, buff, and finish floors as needed
• Shampoo rugs as needed
• Clean windows and doors as required
• Report maintenance and supply needs to the appropriate supervisor
• Keep walkways clear of snow and other debris
• Keep stairs and doorways free from obstruction
• Maintain client and staff confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and procedures
• Attend required staff meetings, supervisory conferences, and training sessions
• Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma, equivalent, or GED
• Minimum 2 years of janitorial/housekeeping experience
• Ability to regularly lift and move up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, and climb stairs as required by the position
• Ability to work professionally and respectfully around clients, staff, and visitors
• Ability to handle Protected Health Information and comply with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules
• Bilingual abilities are a plus
