Janitor

About the Role

This role requires performing a variety of janitorial and helper duties within Tecomet’s principles of continuous improvement, customer-driven innovation, and a win-first culture, while meeting company financial and performance metrics.

Responsibilities

• Clean, wax, and polish floors, including stripping old wax, wet mopping, and applying waxes.
• Vacuum carpets.
• Clean restrooms and facilities.
• Move trash and load dumpsters; dispose of and separate metal chips as required.
• Replace water jugs.
• Wash and clean windows.
• Perform grounds-keeping duties such as mowing lawns, sweeping walks, trimming bushes/hedges, and shoveling snow.
• Monitor and maintain janitorial supplies and equipment.
• Perform helper duties to assist the maintenance supervisor, including replacing light bulbs and cleaning light fixtures.
• Maintain, lubricate, and clean plant equipment and machines.
• Assist with moving machinery, plumbing on air/water lines, and routine electrical work.
• Help with periodic maintenance of plant equipment and related tools.
• Maintain necessary records and move materials as required.
• Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to supervisor.
• Maintain work area and equipment in a lean, safe, and orderly condition.
• Follow established company rules, regulations, safety precautions, and quality standards.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work from manuals, guides, and verbal/written instructions from a supervisor.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and basic arithmetic (adding/subtracting whole numbers).
• Experience using waxing/polishing equipment, brooms, cleaners, rags, disinfectants, waxes, mops, buckets, vacuum cleaners, transporters, hand carts, dumpsters, dollies, hand tools, lubricants, maintenance supplies, and related equipment.

Skills

• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and exercise judgment.

Work Environment

The work environment may require standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
