About the role
The Collections Registrar at Smith College is responsible for managing the college’s art collection, including cataloging, researching, and maintaining the integrity of the artworks.
Responsibilities
- Manage the inventory and documentation of the art collection
- Research and document the history and provenance of artworks
- Collaborate with curators and other departments to ensure the collection aligns with the college’s educational goals
- Develop and implement strategies to preserve and protect the collection
- Work with vendors and contractors to ensure proper handling and storage of artworks
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in art conservation, museum management, or related field
- Experience with art databases and cataloging systems
- Strong knowledge of art history and art conservation principles
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of art preservation techniques and materials
