About the role

The Collections Registrar at Smith College is responsible for managing the college’s art collection, including cataloging, researching, and maintaining the integrity of the artworks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the inventory and documentation of the art collection
  • Research and document the history and provenance of artworks
  • Collaborate with curators and other departments to ensure the collection aligns with the college’s educational goals
  • Develop and implement strategies to preserve and protect the collection
  • Work with vendors and contractors to ensure proper handling and storage of artworks

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in art conservation, museum management, or related field
  • Experience with art databases and cataloging systems
  • Strong knowledge of art history and art conservation principles
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of art preservation techniques and materials
