About the role

The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor II is responsible for the operation of the nursing unit over a specific time period. They must have a strong foundation of clinical knowledge and skills, organizing abilities to direct nursing tasks and operations, and interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and the work of others.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, coordinating, and evaluating unit nursing activities
  • Identifying and implementing nursing interventions and evaluating results for a wide variety of patient populations
  • Directing and acting as a resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned
  • Promoting compliance and support for policies
  • Providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient-centered care
  • Assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care
  • Delivering direct patient care
  • Ensuring patient satisfaction
  • Training and delegating duties
  • Adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations

Requirements

  • Current California Registered Nurse License without restrictions
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or a Bachelor’s degree (in a field other than nursing) paired with a Master’s of Science degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a leadership role (includes unit charge nurse role)
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent RN experience
  • Experience with Magnet preparation, clinic safety requirements, service recovery, and medication inventory and procurement
  • Participation in formal leadership courses
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise healthcare team members and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a clinic
  • In-depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery systems, external regulations, and internal policies
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resource issues and performance, and to participate in the decision-making on human resources matters
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaborations and problem solving with all levels of management, staff, consultants, and outside agencies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, and to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic
  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care
  • Mastery of relational competencies

Qualifications

  • Registered nurses must be knowledgeable and skillful in performing the Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor role
  • The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor accepts the responsibility for, and is accountable for, his/her own nursing practice
  • The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor also seeks out and pursues opportunities for learning and assumes responsibility for their own self-development
