About the role
J Kids Counselors create and maintain a positive and safe environment for kids enrolled in J Kids programs, including Kidstown, Parents Night Out, and School’s Out Camps.
Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for children under their care to ensure a positive and safe experience.
- Actively participate in and supervise activities during J Kids programming, including the pool.
- Plan and lead daily activities.
- Ensure that the spaces used for J Kids program(s) are cleaned before leaving.
- Support the emotional and social wellbeing of the kids through positive behavior management, supportive interactions, and conflict resolution.
- Communicate regularly and appropriately with the rest of the J Kids staff team, both verbally and in writing.
- Ensure children get to where they need to go as directed by J Kids management or other appropriate management.
- Check children in as they arrive to any J Kids program and check children out with an authorized adult.
- Maintain daily cleanliness of all J Kids spaces.
- Act as a positive ambassador of the SJCC both inside and outside of the SJCC.
- Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC.
- Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines or scheduling needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience and/or training working with children preferred.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for adults/infants/children, through an approved certifying body.
- Current Bloodborne Pathogen Certification required through an approved certifying body.

- Physical Demands: Frequently required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. Occasionally required to stoop, climb, balance, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms. May be required to carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Environmental Conditions: Typically performed in a community center environment, both inside and outside, with a moderate to loud noise level. May include slippery surfaces, crowded areas, or working near moving parts (e.g., exercise equipment). Local travel may be required. Entering the SJCC pool may be required.
