J-1 Seasonal Associate

About the Role

All associates are responsible for increasing customer confidence and loyalty by providing courteous and prompt service, consistent operating conditions, and a friendly atmosphere. Work may be performed throughout various departments of the store, including Cashier, Bagger, Deli, Bakery, Produce, Floral, Grocery, Meat, Seafood, Dairy, Frozen Food, and Liquor Store. Associates must comply with assigned tasks in a timely and service-oriented manner.

Responsibilities

  • Stock, unload, check dates, clean, and organize products.
  • Assist customers, take groceries to vehicles, and collect grocery carts.
  • Prepare food, decorate, package products, and take out garbage.
  • Clean dishes, bag groceries, sort products, and process customer transactions.
  • Perform regular cleaning and sanitation tasks, including restrooms and breakrooms.
  • Maintain financial responsibility in assigned service lanes when applicable.

Essential Responsibilities

Service (60% of time):

  • Create a welcoming environment to increase customer confidence and loyalty.
  • Ensure product availability, freshness, quality, and value on shelves.
  • Offer product samples, answer questions, and assist customers in finding products.
  • Fulfill customer requests and special orders.

Leadership (20% of time):

  • Promote trust, respect, and teamwork among associates.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.

Financial (10% of time):

  • Maintain awareness of inventory and report discrepancies.
  • Inspect products for quality and freshness; take appropriate action.
  • Prepare, package, label, and display products for sale.
  • Follow production planning tools and discard/markdown processes to reduce shrink.
  • Ensure proper temperature control and document temperature logs per food safety guidelines.

Compliance/Safety (10% of time):

  • Maintain company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity.
  • Adhere to food safety, USDA, COOL, and DOA regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Execute product recalls and withdrawals promptly and securely.
  • Reinforce safety programs, report unsafe conditions, and notify management of accidents.
  • Report safety risks, illegal activity, theft, or fraud.
  • Ensure adherence to wage and hour policies and cultivate a culture of safety.
  • Ensure Hazardous Assessments are posted and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available and utilized.
  • Maintain equipment in good repair and assist with remediation of safety hazards.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned. All J-1 Exchange Visitors are bound by their work agreements.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age (21 years for Liquor Store).
  • Meet all requirements for the J-1 VISA and be authorized to work in the United States under an approved J-1 VISA.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and follow English instructions.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, utilize manual dexterity, talk, see, hear, smell, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Frequently required to reach at waist level or overhead, carry, push, or lift loads up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid conditions.
  • Frequent twisting of back and/or neck, walking on slippery or cluttered floors, and working with hazardous equipment.
  • Occasional exposure to loud noise, skin irritants, nuisance dust, fumes, sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins.

Equipment Used

  • Cleaning supplies and equipment, general office equipment, box cutter, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner.
  • Material handling equipment such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts.
  • Department-specific tools: ladders, pliers, wire cutters, ovens, stoves, rotisserie, fryers, steamers, proofer, ice machine, shovel, lobster tank, pineapple corer, helium tank.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: goggles, gloves, cutting gloves, fryer gloves, oven gloves.

Schedule

The employee is required to work varied schedules.
