Responsibilities
- Performs inspections and examinations of less complicated components to detect mechanical or electrical failures.
- Changes filters, cleans units, and performs other routine maintenance.
- Disassembles related equipment to note condition and make necessary repairs or replacements.
- Checks electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls and assists in making adjustments, repairs, or replacements.
- Pumps down and charges units with appropriate refrigerants.
- Assists in equipment installation according to blueprints, sketches, specifications, and manufacturer recommendations.
- Assists in testing and balancing air and chilled/hot water systems.
- Keeps records and makes reports of daily work, emergency/service calls investigated, service rendered, results of troubleshooting, and general condition of equipment and systems.
- Makes recommendations for modifications.
- Assists in reviewing controls and control systems for proper operation, sequencing, and optimum efficiency and recommends changes to achieve optimum operations.
- Adheres to all University, Departmental, and OSHA safety policies, practices, and requirements.
- Performs other related duties, including the maintenance of tools.
Qualifications
- High School education and 1 year of experience as a building heating, ventilating, cooling and controls mechanics.
- The ability to read and write the English language.
- EPA Refrigerant Certification required.
