IT, Security Engineer II

Responsibilities
A typical day for a Security Engineer II involves managing and supporting the security posture of Castle Biosciences' IT environment. Responsibilities include serving as an escalation point for SNOC and Help Desk security-related issues.
Daily activities include:
- Designing, implementing, and managing security controls across on-premises and cloud environments
- Monitoring, investigating, and responding to security incidents and vulnerabilities
- Supporting compliance and security governance initiatives
Approximately 60% of the role is focused on security projects, system improvements, and troubleshooting complex security and network-related issues.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
Required experience and certifications include:
- 4+ years of experience in information security engineering, security operations, or cybersecurity infrastructure
- One or more of the following or equivalent: CompTIA Security+, GIAC (GSEC or similar), Cisco CCNA Security or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM platforms, endpoint protection, and vulnerability management tools
- Experience configuring and supporting VPNs, secure network connectivity, and hybrid cloud security solutions
Schedule
Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, working from our Friendswood, TX location.
On-Call: Participation in a rotating on-call schedule required
After-Hours Work: May be required as needed
Travel: Travel as needed
