Under the general supervision of the Director of Admin Computing Services and Management Operations and consistent with University and School of Medicine policies and procedures.

About the role

The incumbent is responsible for developing, implementing, and utilizing standard project management processes to evaluate, execute, and close Information Technology projects. Additionally, the incumbent manages the Information Technology project portfolio and serves as the technical liaison between IT teams, vendors, and departments throughout the School of Medicine and SIU Healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Project Management (80%)
    • Manage the Information Technology project portfolio.
    • Oversee approved IT projects, including resource allocation, progress tracking, and project closure.
    • Coordinate and evaluate proposed IT projects to ensure success measures are achievable.
    • Review, track, and verify completion of agreements and legal documents.
    • Establish and maintain IT project folders and documentation.
    • Develop, verify, and document project scope, task plans, test plans, education plans, and timelines with assigned resources and team members.
    • Manage and document IT project implementations, ensuring adherence to project plans and timelines.
    • Guide and support project team members during implementation.
    • Monitor project timelines and document progress for stakeholders and executives.
    • Document and communicate modifications affecting project scope, timeline, or resources.
    • Monitor project scopes to prevent unauthorized changes.
    • Analyze, manage, and communicate risks encountered during project implementation.
    • Verify and document completion of testing and education plans.
    • Ensure future support for implemented projects and manage project closure.
    • Serve as liaison and advocate between IT teams, vendors, and School of Medicine/SIU Healthcare departments.
    • Act as technical advisor and consultant to School of Medicine and SIU Healthcare personnel.
  • Technology (15%)
    • Assist in developing long and short-term strategic plans for School of Medicine technology.
    • Evaluate current systems for integration opportunities, enhancements, efficiencies, and cost-savings.
    • Assist with selection, procurement, implementation, and integration of project-required equipment.
    • Contribute to the conceptualization and design of new and revised systems, methods, and procedures for IT development.
  • Service (5%)
    • Participate on advisory committees both on-campus and with outside entities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any combination totaling six (6) years (72 months) from the following:
    • College coursework in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months).
      • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months).
      • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months).
      • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months).
    • Work experience in IT-related functions such as programming, network design, networking engineering, or IT systems integration.
    • Two (2) years of total work experience in a supervisory or lead worker capacity in an IT environment.
