IT PROFESSIONAL 2 - APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

Job Summary

This position is primarily located in the Carson DMV Office within the Motor Vehicles IT Division and will support the Department's cloud modernization efforts as part of the multi year transformation initiative. The incumbent will assist in the design, maintenance, and optimization of the DMV's cloud infrastructure, ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient operations across enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance the DMV's cloud infrastructure to ensure reliability, security, scalability, and overall performance, including supporting cloud environments and applying knowledge of managed and serverless services, the Shared Responsibility Model, and the Cloud Well Architected Framework.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy cloud architectures.
• Implement infrastructure automation.
• Research and modify enterprise cloud systems and application software.
• Maintain documented procedures and standards.
• Stay current on cloud engineering technologies and industry developments.
• Utilize expertise in cloud security, monitoring, compute, network, storage, and database services.
• Support hybrid cloud integrations.
• Demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, working both independently and collaboratively within cross functional teams.
• Employ agile methodologies and tools such as Azure DevOps, Confluence, and Jira.
• Conduct detailed alternative analyses and determine end-user requirements through consultation with end-users, technicians, vendors, management, and others.
• Maintain documentation related to the assigned IT specialization's architecture, operations, and other records of work activities as required.
• Maintain current knowledge of technological trends and advancements in the IT field as well as security management practices, laws, policies, and ethics.
• Participate in recommending and justifying resource allocations and expenditure decisions, tracking, and recording expenditures, preparing purchase requests, and writing technical requirements for grant proposals.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security.
• OR two years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service.
• OR four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service.
• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Applications Analysis And Development

• Working knowledge of: at least one general purpose programming language (in software-oriented positions); basic programming techniques such as table handling and on-line file updates; principles, practices, and procedures required to design and implement information systems-based solutions; principles, tools and techniques as applied to writing, modifying, and documenting programs; techniques of diagramming program flow.
• General knowledge of: access methods and file structures; at least one formal systems design methodology; principles of designing test procedures; principles, practices and procedures required to develop, design, and implement information system-based solutions in a wide range of problem domains.
• Ability to: decompose problems into constituent parts; interview users to identify needs; make decisions and use independent judgment (independently choose appropriate action after reviewing alternatives); test and validate systems.

• When January 1, June 19, July 4, November 11, or December 25 falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is the observed legal holiday. If these days fall on Sunday, the following Monday is the observed holiday.
