IT Network Administrator

About the role

Responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and administration of the organization’s networks and other information technology systems. Acts as Technical lead for all projects, drives continuous improvement, and supports digital transformation initiatives. Fosters a collaborative team environment and assists in the fulfillment of the Organization’s vision and mission.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor IT staff as assigned.
  • Assist and direct other technicians and enhance their knowledge to become network administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and administer networks, including hybrid cloud, virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V), Windows servers, Microsoft SQL, and other network applications.
  • Ensure network connectivity, performance, and security using modern tools and frameworks (e.g., zero trust, multi-factor authentication, endpoint protection).
  • Monitor and manage cloud platforms (Office365, SharePoint Online, Azure/AWS), including backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Configure and maintain VLANS, routing, firewalls, and network segmentation to support secure and scalable operations.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Python) and modern IT management tools.
  • Document network architecture, procedures, and incident response plans; maintain up-to-date records for compliance and audits.
  • Lead cybersecurity initiatives, including vulnerability management, threat detection, and user awareness training.
  • Manage user accounts, access rights, and lifecycle management across systems.
  • Provide technical support, training, and guidance to staff; resolve complex issues and escalate as needed.
  • Coordinate procurement and vendor management for IT hardware, software, and services.
  • Develop and enforce IT policies, procedures, and contingency plans in alignment with agency goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT peers and management to devise effective solutions, resolve cross-functional issues, and support digital transformation.
  • Coordinate system outages, changes, and upgrades with stakeholders; ensure minimal disruption to operations.
  • Participate in IT strategy development, technology roadmaps, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Travel for work-related business using personal/organization vehicle.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Trade or Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, or equivalent combination of technical training and experience in network administration.
  • Industry certifications preferred (CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, VMware Certified Professional).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in network administration, including Windows environments, virtualization, and cloud platforms.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with network security, automation, and IT operations in hybrid environments.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct staff supervision is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, cloud applications, and business software.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills; ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet operational needs.
  • Maintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance in compliance with state law, and meet the organization’s insurance requirements for operating organization vehicles.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (7.5 hours per day).
