IT Manager

About the Role

Magna is seeking a Systems Administrator to manage new and existing enterprise business systems. This role functions as the managing site authority for IT and OT cybersecurity execution and IT infrastructure reliability within the plant IT/OT operating model, operating as a peer to the Lead Controls Engineer and reporting directly to the General Manager.

The Systems Administrator serves as the primary technical manager for site-wide IT infrastructure, system reliability, and cybersecurity practices, ensuring critical manufacturing systems remain stable, secure, and aligned with business and production goals. This position acts as a bridge between production operations, engineering, and corporate IT/security teams, providing hands-on expertise, strategic guidance, and cross-functional coordination.

Responsibilities

• Manages Windows systems environment, including operating system and patch testing prior to installation.
• Enforces policies, defines, and monitors access for application systems; reports operational status through quarterly reviews.
• Maintains, supports, implements, upgrades, and deploys critical databases and applications to meet business requirements.
• Directs IT operational resources, including the IT Operations Technician, and governs day-to-day IT and OT cybersecurity execution aligned with the IT/OT operating model.
• Monitors, analyzes, and measures database performance and storage needs; manages development, implementation, and change control for database modifications.
• Monitors and reviews system logs; detects and troubleshoots problems; writes basic technical operating system documentation.
• Sets up user accounts, permissions, and passwords; supports and prepares computers, phones, and peripheral equipment for users.
• Ensures day-to-day operations of internal applications and peripheral equipment; responds to critical IT emergencies after hours as needed.
• Oversees, secures, and continuously improves the technology ecosystem supporting corporate IT systems and plant-floor Operational Technology (OT) in an automotive manufacturing environment.
• Executes basic PowerShell or Command Shell commands.
• Manages deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, installation, and support of all IT systems, including telecommunications, servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, printers, and office automation equipment.
• Executes cybersecurity and IT controls while respecting OT safety, uptime, and production constraints; aligns changes impacting OT systems with Controls Engineering leadership.
• Investigates and diagnoses network problems; monitors network performance; tests for weaknesses; recommends improvements for software, hardware, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, or purchases.
• Assists users and IT staff with desktop technology configurations; performs basic troubleshooting for desktop hardware and software; provides desktop "help desk" support.
• Orders and receives desktop equipment; maintains inventory of hardware and software; administers systems, repairs, and licensing.
• Supports annual IT and IT Security audits, including creating action plans for remediation.
• Analyzes business needs of clients and stakeholders to identify problems and propose solutions; acts as a liaison between the company and the Global Magna IT team.
• Analyzes, communicates, and validates requirements for changes to business processes, policies, and information systems.
• Analyzes plant systems relating to manufacturing, finance, shop floor, barcoding, and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems); serves as SQL, CRM, EDI, and ERP administrator.
• Maintains a dotted-line relationship to the General Manager for cybersecurity risk visibility, audit outcomes, and major exception escalation.

Requirements

• Demonstrated good communication and interpersonal skills to work with users at various levels within the company.
• Ability to express technical concepts clearly and non-ambiguously.
• Capability to perform physical tasks such as installation and repair, which may involve driving, lifting, bending, twisting, or climbing.
• Strong understanding of personal computer workstations and technologies to install equipment and systems safely and effectively.
• Self-directed and able to work independently; stays updated on job knowledge through educational opportunities and professional publications.
• Cloud experience, preferably with Azure.
• Awareness of safety hazards to perform job duties safely.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a computer/technology-related field preferred.
• Experience working in 24x7 manufacturing environments.
• Minimum of 2 years working as a system administrator within a manufacturing environment/site.
• Minimum of 2 years in Windows administration.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in personal computer repair.
• Minimum of 2 years in management and/or leadership.
