IT Intern for Workflow Automation
About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and enthusiastic IT Intern for Workflow Automation to join our dynamic team in Irvine or San Jose offices, United States. This internship opportunity offers hands-on experience in supporting our efforts in automating IT workflows and reducing support costs using tools such as ServiceNow, Moveworks, and AI. As a member of our IT team, you will collaborate with our managed services provider and internal stakeholders to identify automation opportunities, help design and test workflow solutions, and promote self-service capabilities to end users. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone eager to apply technical and communication skills to real-world challenges, drive innovation, and make a tangible impact within a global organization.
Responsibilities
- Aid in identifying and analyzing workflow inefficiencies within the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements for the automation projects.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of automated workflows using various tools and technologies.
- Help maintain documentation for automated workflows and standard operating procedures.
- Support the team in monitoring and optimizing existing automated processes.
- Work with IT teams and managed service providers to identify and document high-priority automation opportunities.
- Assist in the design, configuration, testing, and optimization of automated workflows using platforms like ServiceNow and Moveworks.
- Collect, analyze, and present data on workflow performance and user feedback to support ongoing improvements.
- Support development and delivery of communications and training materials to engage end users and increase adoption of new self-service options.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Basic programming skills, with knowledge of languages such as Python or JavaScript
- Familiarity with workflow automation concepts and tools; direct experience or familiarity with IT Service Management concepts, ServiceNow, Moveworks, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Basic understanding of process automation, scripting, or workflow tools.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure and cloud computing platforms
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies
Qualifications

- An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
- The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
- If your position is non-exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws. You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.
- You will be eligible to be considered for bonuses under either Western Digital’s Short Term Incentive Plan (“STI Plan”) or the Sales Incentive Plan (“SIP”) which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance, depending on your role and your performance. You may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
