About the role

The Information Technology (IT) Cloud Engineer IV leads the development of the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) cloud platform and provides technical architecture and design leadership for technology initiatives across the HMH network. This role defines best practices for architecture, configuration, management, administration, automation, and business continuity of the HMH cloud environment, ensuring cloud applications are designed for reliability, high availability, and resiliency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance to cloud and other engineers for the design, implementation, and support of new cloud platform architecture and automation technologies.
  • Update and maintain existing cloud and automation systems.
  • Serve as the HMH subject matter expert for cloud, automation, and end-to-end architecture for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions.
  • Work closely with other teams to develop and promote cloud-native application architectures (microservices, serverless, containers) and DevOps practices.
  • Maintain industry knowledge on the latest trends and demonstrate forward-thinking around technology’s role in organizational growth.
  • Advocate and define the cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems.
  • Design, configure, implement, and support a fully automated workflow for provisioning and maintaining a complex, highly available cloud environment using infrastructure as code.
  • Develop and maintain a library of deployable, tested, and documented automation design scripts, processes, and procedures for deploying services to the cloud.
  • Enable DevOps development activities and complex tasks using tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Cloud Build, and Azure DevOps.
  • Participate in cloud computing environment build-outs, software installation, maintenance, and support, including patches, fixes, and upgrades.
  • Act as a thought partner in developing technology roadmaps and end-of-life technology plans.
  • Implement production changes during defined maintenance windows and support on-call rotation; serve as a point of escalation for production support issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior team members and review product work, including detailed code, for deployment approval.
  • Provide technical expertise and ownership in diagnosing and resolving issues, including determining workarounds or escalating to service owners.
  • Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, application build, testing, and deployment for cloud platform projects.
  • Create and maintain documentation of architecture solutions, including whitepapers, reference architectures, implementation diagrams, and relevant systems, procedures, and processes.
  • Deliver technical solutions that address complexity, scale, and performance, enabling breakthrough innovations.
  • Drive collaborative architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful, automated cloud deployment, providing prescriptive guidance for Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure platforms.
  • Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical discipline such as Computer Science or Information Technology; and/or applicable technical certificate; and/or equivalent (4 years) related experience.
  • Minimum of 8+ years (12+ if no degree) of experience in IT systems installation, operations, design, and architecture of virtualized servers/cloud systems.
  • Good consultative, communication, team player, and analytical skills for collaboration across distributed teams.
  • Technical leadership skills and experience working with highly technical resources while maintaining mission-critical systems.
  • Deep technical knowledge and extensive experience with complex IT environments, including applications, middleware, storage, networks, information security, and operations.
  • Solid understanding of cloud services, cloud-native architectures, and application delivery models.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for engaging with business/technology leaders, architects, developers, and team members.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with high-performing technical individuals.
  • Hands-on experience with agile, DevOps, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Demonstrated ability to support cloud architecture recommendations with research and reasoning.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform, GitHub, and configuration management tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
  • Experience architecting, implementing, and maintaining highly available mission-critical environments for 24/7 availability.
  • Experience working in a defined production change control process and a mature security control posture environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability) and DevOps toolchains.
  • Proven ability to work within deadlines and under pressure.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience working in a healthcare or highly regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), object-oriented analysis and design, and client/server systems.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in IT systems installation, operations, design, and virtualized servers/cloud systems architecture.
  • In-depth knowledge of container and microservices technologies, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and Kafka.
  • Passion for new technologies and architecture, with a focus on regulatory/compliance demands (e.g., CIS, NIST, HIPAA).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Required: Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation certification at hire or within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Preferred: Google Cloud Platform Certified Professional Cloud Architect or Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.

Pay

Minimum starting rate of $156,062.40 annually. The posted rate is a reasonable good-faith estimate and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations. Some roles may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, commissions, or shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend work.
