Ironworker - Austin Industrial Decatur, IL Corn Capital

About the role

Performs duties to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. Must have a minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in the Industrial Ironworker craft.

Responsibilities

• Reads blueprints and selects required material for construction.
• Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
• Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable, or rope.
• Guides structure being lifted into proper position and aligns rivet holes with corresponding holes.
• Drives drift pins through rivet holes.
• Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level.
• Bolts aligned structures to keep them in position until permanently riveted, bolted, or welded into place.

Requirements

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• For safety reasons, must be able to read and speak fluent English.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Depending on the job site, certain certificates or licenses may be required (NCCER and Advanced Rigging preferred).
• May require travel or commuting for this position.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, or hear, and taste or smell.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
